A nautical post-mortem
In July last year, the shipping container MOL Comfort suffered a spectacular and protracted death in the Arabian Sea, along with its cargo (which included a large box of my wife’s belongings). Click through to my blog post for the whole story and more pictures.
The shipping community was surprised that such a modern ship (she was launched in 2008) could simply fall to bits mid-ocean.
The technical report on the sinking was recently released. They calculated that the torque which broke the bottom shell plates was 13.8 billion Newton-metres!
